Introduction:
He beautiful people! You all will have plans, goals for your life which is summarised in Vision Board. Its a must for everyone to have a vision board of life meticulously planned.
Vision Board helps one to see everyday what they want to achieve or aspire to own in their life. This continuous reminder of your goals everyday helps one to work towards achieving it or taking small steps towards.
You might have started planning for the new year or the to-do list for next year. You might be planning that “I will do certain things next year” as it’s just one or two months away. You might be preparing for New Year Resolutions, New Ways of Living Meaningful Life, Quitting Bad Habits, and so on….
You might have planned all this during the start of the current year or the previous year. You even followed or made changes as per the planning, but then it was for one or two months, and then you lost track and then lost it….
Hmm… I, too, have done this in the past. And I think we all have done this in the past. So how to do it right this time. This time to do it the right way is by a Vision Board. Yes, you read it correctly A Vision Board.
What is a Vision Board?
It’s a board of your vision in simple language.
To explain it more, it’s a visual representation of your plans or dreams or goals which you want to do or achieve on a piece of board.
Mind it, it is not just a piece of board with random pictures or quotes of life but a life you want to create for yourself.
How is it different from Journal, Personal Dairy, or New Year's Resolution?
Vision Board is not a resolution you should make at the start of the year. Still, anytime you plan to do something, giving you a sense of achievement, satisfaction, and happiness. You can have short-term and long-term vision boards as per individual.
They are very different from journals and personal diaries, etc. How? Because it’s a pictorial representation of your imagination and is in front of you.
You can write in your journal and diary what you plan or desire, but you read them only when you pick them, open it and read it. How many people read their journals or diary daily? Very few. They write in that and read when they feel like reading or have time to read.
A vision board is like a photo frame in front of your eyes and a reminder of your plans. You can’t even avoid them. It’s a constant reminder of your to-do tasks. You start living and believing in your dreams and plans. This tunes your subconscious toward those goals, and you start working to make them happen.
How to make a Vision Board for Me?
So now the real work starts. This is not an art and craft hobby; if you like beautiful pictures from magazines and motivational quotes, cut and paste them, and it is done. No, it is hard work. You define your future and what you want to be and then align it accordingly. For sure, no one wants it in the wrong way. 😊
Below I will provide a step-by-step guide to make one for yourself.
Step 1 (THE MOST IMPORTANT) :- Set your goals. What you want to be. What are your career goals, life goals, relationship goals, etc. This will not happen in a day. This takes time and effort.
Time and effort to introspect yourself. When you do this, you find your strengths, weakness, aspirations & desires, what you no longer desire or want, and what matters to you now, and the list is on.
This helps you to have more clarity about yourself and your life. You now know your crucial working areas.
STEP 2 :- Look at pictures and statements which inspire you to work towards your goals. These pictures encourage you, and you must visualize yourself living in those pictures. As if these pictures are from your own life moments, imagine the statements as the current reality of your life.
For example, I want to lose 10 kg of weight sustainably. I put my ideal weight number on my vision board along with other goals. An inspirational image of a woman who has sustainably lost weight. Few healthy foods picture.
STEP 3 :- Once you gather your inspirational pictures, words, quotes, etc., paste them to your vision board. Sometimes if you don’t get the desired images or sections, you can draw/write yourself. The intention here is to have inspirational items you can get to make your vision board. There is no thumb rule to arranging them on the board, but you must ensure that all your goals are clearly visible and not cluttered. And here is your vision board ready.
STEP 4 :- Once all of them are up on the board, you need to ensure that the board is hung or placed where you see it every day. You need to practice, see, believe in, visualize, and live it. Once you do this every day, you will remember your goals and aspirations, and you will start working to achieve them every day.
Continuing our previous example of losing weight, I have my inspirational picture and my target goal. Looking at the board daily inspires me to be like a person in the image, and I start visualizing myself in a fitter body.
What is the purpose of looking at it every single day?
Consistency!! Yes, when we do anything consistently, it becomes our habit. We brush our teeth as it’s our habit. Similarly, to achieve anything in life, we need to work for it every day as it is our habit.
What not to do on our Vision Board?
This is our vision board and not somebody’s else. And so it should only have inspiring visuals of your goals and aspiration. Do not share it with others’ inspirational visuals.
The board inspires you; thus, it has to have positive visuals and inspiration. No negativity, as it will impact your work in progress, and any negative thoughts for others will only affect you.
Very important, make a realistic vision board. Everything starts from scratch and shapes with time and endurance. So are your visions. It’s a representation of your thoughts in your mind. We are just making those thoughts a reality by living them daily by working on them.
Some Pro Tips for your vision board.
- Your goals should be clear and crisp and not generic. This will help you to focus better.
